Full Review of the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer
The Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer provides all you need for a training session at your fingertips. With no memory, the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer gives simple training data on the readout and it is easy to read parameters and add data as you go. Although the data is not recorded on the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer, it does give averages, for example cadence, at the end of the session. The electric brake is wireless, so there are no annoying trailing wires between it and the handlebars and there is also no need for a cadence sensor. In fact, the only things you need to use the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer are your bike and a power socket. With its white frame and Skyliner front wheel support, this is a very good looking piece of kit and at the price a very good buy.
Limitations of the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer
As bought and out of the box, the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer has its limitations, as it has no memory and so cannot be used to track your training progress, as such. Of course, there is nothing to stop you writing things down and downloading them to the training website of your choice, or the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer can easily be upgraded, even to a Virtual Reality level, should you choose. The Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer would be an ideal group buy for a club or group of friends; as it has no memory and everything has to be entered for each ride, it would be easy to swap riders.
Also, with the Skyliner front wheel support, it is not necessary to break down the bikes fitted to it, meaning that down time in a training schedule is kept to a minimum when using the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer. It packs down small, so that storage would not be a problem it can be a bit of an issue with items like this when someone always has the gadgets cluttering up their hall! Another issue, though not likely to cause too much problems, unless you intend to take it touring, is that the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer cannot be used at 110v. If any attempt is made to plug it in to, for example, American sockets, the unit will blow and will be unrepairable. As I say, not a major problem, but it needs to be said and the instructions do make this very clear.
Should you buy a Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer?
The Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer is certainly easy to use, with wireless bike mounting and training parameters entered with the touch of a button. For ease of use there is little to beat the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer and if you struggle to find time for training, then this is certainly the one for you. From getting it plugged in to being in a fully monitored training ride is a matter of minutes, so there will be no more excuses on that score. If you want more bells and whistles, perhaps it would be worth your while and buying a more sophisticated model, although the ability to upgrade the Tacx T1960 Vortex Trainer easily makes that also an option. The best price we could find it for is £380.00 from Chain Reaction Cycles. Open the Chain Reaction Cycles Online Store here to see this deal.
