Full Review of the Tacx Rollers T1000
The Tacx Antares Professional Training Rollers are ideal for someone looking for good value entry-level bicycle rollers with the option to add resistance available.
Out of the box these Tacx Rollers are easily assembled. You simply attach the three rollers in their mountings on the frame, then attach the band to the rollers and finally adjust the distance between the rollers to accommodate your bike.
Tacx Antares – the structure
The rollers themselves are heavy conical rollers. The heavy bit is designed to optimize the mass inertia of the rollers. The conical part means that they are thinner in the middle than at the edges and therefore (in theory) you wont go flying off quite as easily. They do not however have large lips, such as the Elite Ghibli Rollers which a really designed to keep you on your bicycle rollers.
This shape does work, as soon as you have got the knack of getting on or off your bike. Due to the height of the these rollers as compared to other models this can prove to be a bit difficult for someone new to them. A step would have been a useful addition to these rollers but you can make do with something else. Just make sure you mount the rollers near a wall or in a doorway until youve got the hang of it.
How is the ride on the Tacx Antares Rollers?
The riding experience as a whole isnt bad, these rollers arent the quietest around but theyre certainly a lot quieter than any comparable turbo trainer. The noise they emit is of course influenced by the surface you are training on; wooden floors can get a bit noisy with any bicycle rollers and you might benefit from a training mat to dampen the vibrations (and catch the sweat).
Storing the Tacx Antares
The rollers are easily folded up and packed away, in fact they measure only 80cm when collapsed which really isnt bad. They arent the lightest rollers on the market but you can still carry them without pulling a muscle.
As with any roller, the Tacx Antares Professional Training Rollers are very easy to use, just clear some floor space, put your bike on them and off you go. They will train your core strength and improve your balance at the same time. Training on these rollers is also great for improving your pedal stroke. Youll really notice the difference in your road riding after every session on your rollers.
There are no additional resistance settings on these rollers, however Tacx do sell an upgrade resistance unit which attaches to the Antares Rollers. Despite this, you will still work up a sweat and you can change the resistance to a degree by changing gears on your bike.
What do we think about them?
Overall these are a good value training aid which can be upgraded with a resistance unit over time. However for the price of the combined rollers and resistance unit you could purchase higher end models from the start. The Tacx Antares Professional Training Rollers will however be perfect for someone new to indoor bicycle training on rollers. The best price we could find it for is £143.99 from Chain Reaction Cycles. Open the Chain Reaction Cycles Online Store here to see this deal.
Pros: Good Value, Resistance upgrade available, Quiet, Smooth Ride
Cons: Not the highest quality available, Lack of step & high frame makes mounting difficult.

In the past I have had rollers as well as trainers and think that rollers are more suitable. Unless you have a bad sense of balance rollers are better due to the fact that you need to concentrate during your session. You will need some time for your confidence to grow and before you know it you will be able to stick the bike on without any hassle. Overall great quality but a little bit overpriced in my personal opinion. Don’t hesitate to try them out for yourself.
