Full Review of the Kurt Kinetic Pro Trainer
The Kurt Kinetic Pro Trainer may just change the way you see your indoor bicycle training (well, its not going to keep you indoors on a sunny day). It is one of the best trainers we have seen and I have never heard or read a bad thing about it and I hear and read a lot about bike trainers.
Kinetic Pro Resistance Unit
Ill jump ahead of my usual review strategy here to get to what I think is the best part of this trainer: It comes with two flywheels. The basic flywheel weighs 6lbs (2.7kg) and is perfect for really effective interval training (and dont we all just love interval training?).
However the unit also comes with an additional 12lb (5.4kg) flywheel which you can combine with the smaller one to create a massive 18lb (8.4kg) flywheel. This is fantastic for endurance training and will give you one of the most realistic rides you have ever experienced on a bicycle trainer.
Kinetic Pro Trainer set up
Ok, now back to the beginning, the Kurt Kinetic Pro Trainer is easy to set up out of the box and has a reassuringly solid feel to it. It is one of the largest turbo trainers on the market and its large base will keep you firmly upright so youre not going to tip your bike over no matter how enthusiastic you get when out of the saddle.
The size and the weight of the additional flywheel mean that you are not going to be transporting this trainer around with you. Its therefore not ideal to use as a trainer to warm up before races.
What you will use it for is for very long endurance training sessions whenever you cant get out on the road and for this the Kurt Kinetic Pro Trainer is ideal.
I must note however that despite the weight and size it does pack down fairly small for storage purposes.
Mounting your bike into the Kurt Kinetic Pro is simple and is made even easier than the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine with the addition of a foot pedal which you can use to engage the roller onto your back tire (as compared to a fiddly knob).
Kinetic Pro Bike Trainer – the ride
The ride is exceptionally realistic and you can slog away for hours and if you close your eyes and have a fan on you could almost imagine yourself riding through sun drenched fields in France. Open your eyes and youre back in your basement/garage/front room, but it was nice for a second or two wasnt it?
Back to the business side of things and the Kurt Kinetic Pro Trainer is pretty quiet. Similarly to the Road Machine there are quieter trainers on the market but its not loud enough to be a huge concern. You will have to watch out on wooden floors however as the vibrations and resulting noise will increase.
The fluid resistance unit provides a lovely smooth resistance curve and using your gears you will struggle to get near the power ceiling on this trainer. With you bikes gears you will be able to cycle through a large range of resistance and get a fantastic training session. Added to that that the fluid resistance unit is leak-proof and things really are starting to look good.
What we think of the Kinetic Pro Bike Trainer
Overall this is a fantastic piece of kit and receives rave reviews from pretty much anyone who has had the chance to own one. Coupled with the very solid build and the fact that the fluid resistance unit is virtually leak-proof and this is a trainer that will not only last for a long time but has all the flexibility to take your training to the next level. The best price we could find it for is £287.99 from Evans Cycles. Open the Evans Cycles Online Store here to see this deal.
