Full Review of the Elite E-Motion Rollers
The Elite E-Motion Rollers are essentially a slightly modified version of the Inside Ride Rollers developed in the US. Elite have licenced the design in order to adapt and sell these bicycle rollers in Europe.
The rollers consist of an outside frame and an inside carriage on which the rollers are mounted. As in a standard bicycle roller, there is one roller for the front wheel and two for the back. The front roller is adjustable to allow for different wheel bases. This is however where the Elite E-Motion Rollers start to differ from other rollers. The entire inside carriage is spring mounted and can move backwards and forwards while you cycle. This allows for a more realistic feeling while cycling.
Stand up while you cycle on the Elite E-Motion
Something which is great about these rollers is the fact that you can actually stand up while cycling on them. If you’ve tried to do this on static rollers in the past you’ll know that it is impossible to do this without flying off.
What this means is that the ride quality on the Elite E-Motion Rollers is far better than that of standard rollers and is about the most realistic experience of cycling that you can get indoors.
While this is an absolutely fantstic feature I would like to point out how it could also be a potential flaw. On traditional rollers you have always been required to cycle with as smooth a stroke as possible in order to maintain your balance and the best training experience. This can do absolute wonders for when you get out on the road and long sessions on the rollers can really improve your stroke and power. Because the Elite E-Motion Rollers are far more forgiving than standard bicycle rollers this element of training may be lacking for some.
Using the E-Motion Rollers as a beginner
One of the main things with these rollers is the ease with which they can be used. Even roller novices can get up and running far faster on these rollers than they would with standard rollers. You can almost just get on to the Elite E-Motion Rollers and in less than 30 seconds be cycling along as if you’d been training on rollers all your life.
The two integrated foot rests in the frame either side of the rollers really help when getting on and off your bike as they provide ample room for you to step down without falling off the rollers.

Another feature which will thrill beginners and will certainly not be ignored by even seasoned roller riders are the safety bumpers on the front roller. these are small wheels angled at 90 degrees to the roller which stop you from bouncing off the Elite E-Motion even with quite violent swerves to the left or right. This is especially valuable when you are out of the saddle and training sprints or hill climbs.
Resistance settings on the Elite E-Motion Bicycle Rollers
Mentioning sprints and hill climbs brings us onto the next big feature of the Elite E-Motion bicycle rollers: the resistance settings. there are 3 settings, numbered 0,1 and 2. These settings allow you to train not only endurance but also your strength and power. Fancy an hour of hard interval training? Well you can certainly go for it on the Elite E-Motion Rollers. One slight setback could be the fact that you have to dismount in order to change the resistance settings but I personally don’t find that to be too much of a problem.
The resistance is generated magnetically so it does increase the noise over rollers with no resistance but this is not a major overall factor.
A final issue would be the price, you can get a decent virtual reality turbo trainer for the same sort of money so it really is a significant investment. However the Elite E-Motion Rollers do give you the most realistic riding exeprience available indoors and that is what we all really crave. Add a training DVD to the mix and you have a setup which can really allieviate boredom while training indoors, a problem that effects everyone.
Our conclusion
Overall, these rollers are an absolutely brilliant training device. If you have the money to spare and you are thinking about buying a new indoor bike trainer then we would definitely recommend going with the Elite E-Motion Rollers. Not only are they safer due to their safety wheels but the resistance settings mean you can vary your workouts during the cold winter months until you can finally get back out on the road. What is the noise level (in dB)?
The noise level is about 72dB with no resistance at 30mph. With full resistance the rollers aren’t noticeably louder, mainly due to the fact that your cycling speed decreases.

Hi Greg, you have to pedal nearly constantly with these to maintain minimum speed. At lower speeds the coasting time is only a few seconds so you can’t really freewheel for any significant periods.
